In principle, the absorption would cause an increase in the film thickness and weight, whereas in the case of adsorption this effect would be negligible (if any). Is there any possibility to measure these characteristics? say, ellipsometry for thickness?

- What if both adsorption or absorption occur in the same time?

- You can make use of the fact that adsorption is a surface property, while, absorption is a property of bulk. You may re-arrange your setup to test the sensing of the surface and the bulk separately.
