This is a good and difficult question since in many cases very small variations in the word arrangement have negative effect. In many cases the use of such phrasal verbs tends to be colloquial leading to difficulty in interpretation of the spoken word, even between communities of relatively close proximity.
If the objective is the formulation of a professional paper I advise my students to avoid the use of such wording, recommending instead the use of their single word alternatives. If however the requirement is that of language teaching, then I believe that even between natural speakers of the language, this complexity can cause difficulty in interpretation and proper use.
I look forward with interest to following answers.
