I have switched from the Petroleum and Mining Engineering to Civil Engineering (especially Environment and Water Resources). I am facing difficulties to select my research area. In this situation what should I do?
I think the waste disposal are suitable. Rock mass seepage and relevant mechanical research area are alternative option .
Nanotechnology could be a good option for both enviornment and waste water treatment.
Eco-friendly and cheaper solutions for Rock/OB Cover Slopes, Rock Mass Characterization, Solid Waste Disposal, Application of Geology and Geoinformatics to Disaster Management in light of slope stabilisation and inhabited hill area settlement/ dwellings/ hill area townships etc. and related interdisciplinary areas can be given consideration.

I suggest you to use the petroleum based geopolymer material like polyethylene materials used for reinforcing soils. Lot of literature are available on this topic. you try to use new petroleum based material not used so far in Civil Engineering constructions. Since you know very well about these materials and when you use it in civil engineering work, it would be helpful in understanding by you than only Civil Engineers. Ok all the best in your research..

Since you have a good foundation in Petroleum Engineering, then I will suggest you consider any of the following areas.
1. Groundwater modelling (related to geophysical investigations).
2. Remediation of crude oil contaminated environment (aquatic or terrestrial).
3. Modelling pollutants dispersion from gas flaring stations.
4. Effect of crude oil exploration on climate change.
There are past literatures in any of the above mentioned areas.
