One my research scholar has taken a research on use and awareness MOOCs in teacher training. People think that teacher training is more or less an face to face interactive system and it has a very less scope as MOOCs. Is it it so? How to go about this research?
Teachers and teacher training institutions that think the 1:many is the only way of teaching are living in the dark ages of education. Today we have Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wikiversity, Scholar, YouTube, Skype, Podcasts, Woolf, Google, Qiqqa, Smart phones, etc.
MOOCS are a useful adjunct if the problem of secure identification of the learner is overcome. Blockchain technology may be used. Now tell me, what teacher training institutions teach Blockchain today? Last time I looked at my calendar I saw that we are already 18 years into the 21st Century.
MOOCs are actually time saving, more effective if correctly reconnoitered or implemented. the problem many view them as a waste of time is the lack of seriousness among the trainees. most of them, if not all, of those i have observed spent most of their time on useless internet material instead of studying. so my advice is, if you are to use them make sure the trainees are only gonna be on the MOOC platforms thus they will dedicate their time on the studies.
@Johannes Yes, your worry is quit to be taken care of during the research. Since teacher training has been the last option for the aspirants in our country (India) but after stress from govt. agencies, there is a seriousness in the training from quite some time now so we can think of MOOCS along with FTF trainings
