Hello everyone.

The aim of my current project is the identification of novel therapeutics for Diabetic Retinopathy. We are using the STZ rat model for the induction of Diabetes, using a single dose of 70mg/kg for each animal. Our problem is that four weeks after the STZ injection -and although all the STZ-treated animals display high glucose levels and polyuria as symptoms, we do not observe any reduction in the number of retinal cells (e.g. amacrine cells). Does anyone have any idea about the cause of these observations?

Thank you for your time!
