Biochar production is a simple process that anyone can do. Warm Heart has designed cheap and easy methods for converting biomass waste into biochar. The simplest and cheapest method is to dig a hole in the ground. You can also build a cheap biochar oven using an old oil drum, or build a trough.
By burning the biomass at a mild temperature in your backyard would generate biochar. Of course, there will be a certain amount of ash. Control of the air in a low contact will generate a low ash component.
The easiest way to prepare biochar is to put the biomass waste in an aluminum foil and put it on a gentle flame.
