I was wondering if there exists a file format to store time series data that is acquired through sensor observations. As far as I know at the moment there is no such a standard and each tool/applications uses its own in-house format to store time series (csv, txt, xls, etc). I came across this article

where authors propose such a standard based on HDF5 but not sure if they succeed in making their proposal a standard since 2012. Any thoughts on this?

I use time series analysis rather regularly, but I have never had the luxury of setting the frequency of data capture. I would imagine that it depends on a range of factors, such as (1), the specific sensor's ability to change the frequency of data capture, (2) how often you would expect to see change [if the object/subject under study changes relatively infrequently, why capture data more frequently than necessary?], (3) file size limitations for analysis.
