hello every body, I need your advise regard how to make a link (connection) between stainless steel and quartz tubing with diameter size ( 3/4 inch) for both of them, which way suitable for high temperature application? is there any special useful way to avoid the thermal stresses and expansion that may be occur during high temp? I will be grateful if anyone could advise me... Thanks
Such connections can only be realized via rubber or silicone seals. Maximum application temperature for the case with silicone seals approx. 150°C. A direct connection of stainless steel and quartz glass works only for thick apparatus-glass windows (thick round glass disc in a massive steel frame). Glass pane stands under very high compressive stress. This "trick" is not applicable to pipes.
I always used Wilson seals, which are available up to at least 1.5 inches in diameter. The use temperature is limited by the O-nng, which was located outside the furnace. I routinely heated samples to 1000C in the tube, with the seal located a few inches outside the furnace. If the temperature gets too hot at the seal, try using a fan to blow air over the seal to keep it cool.
