Second question I'm hoping to get help with here, first one remains unanswered.

Does anyone have any idea why SPSS bugs out when conducting a missing values analysis using an ordinal (survey, Likert-scale) variable?

EG: When running the MVA, if I place the ordinal variable with known missing values into the categorical section, the system reply is;

"There are no quantitative variables. EM statistics are not computed."

Does SPSS not know that ordinal = categorical?

Or is my understanding of variable types completely wrong here?

If I place it as a quantitative variable, it computes and I get an MVA value. Is this right?

Again it appears as if I am the first person with missing survey data who is attempting MVA, as I can find no references or easily discernable information online. Anyone up to the challenge of helping with this one?
