There are two significant points worth clarifying:
1. The magnetosphere, bent by the solar wind, can reach lengths of more than 40 astronomical units on the night side of the sky (or, according to other sources, 200 terrestrial radii). That is, an artificial satellite located at Lagrange point # 2 will actually be located within the earth's magnetosphere.
2. Low orbits and geostationary orbits are used by most types of spacecraft. Communication, navigation, geological exploration and many other tasks.
