Take a look at the attached soil acidity map of Ethiopia from this analysis we might expect about 40% of the land is too acid to optimize crop production and 50% is too alkaline and a meager 10% is in an optimum condition. While agriculturalists are crying out to new technological development to increase crop yield and quality we have apparently almost completely forgotten the critical role of soil pH in crop responses.

While to role of soil acidity and alkalinity has been known for sometime now and existing technologies are potentially available why have agriculturalists paid so little attention to soil liming and adjusting alkaline soils which are widespread in all continents which have agricultural infrastructures.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this issue.
