Is Gross National Happiness a valid concept? Does it take the place or is in conflict with Gross National Product? If it is a valid measurement what would be the way of measuring it?
In industry the ability to improve something demands a focus on it.
These gurus say what we can measure we can improve.
A report card does not give progress but focusing on limiting areas in our life may if appropriate changes results.
Since we may not be accurate in self evaluation the outside teachers provide the feedback we do not always like to hear.
In the United States we have embarked on a transformation of the Health Care system but there is little or not information that people are healthier or happier just living longer sometimes in deplorable states. Economics and happiness have some relation but a poorer economic condition does not mean happiness is not possible.
We probably need to stress being in balance in many areas if we expect our happiness will result. That said my Happiness comes from knowing God is in charge of my life. That helps in the daily worries of my physical existence.

Dear Robert The fact that both Japan and Nicaragua have similar happiness puts in focus just how little economics determines happiness.
I guess we just cannot buy it.
On the other hand misery seems to be guaranteed by war. War good God what is it good for? Yet major technological advancements seem to be the product of conflict and competition. Complex my friend.
Yes it is, very complex. And of course we members of Homo sapiens are not always very sapient, nor are we consistent. It is interesting that they use economic data in their evaluation so they must think it has at least some impact on happiness.
