I will be interviewing some students and staff as part of my Masters Thesis on partial absences in secondary school. I am looking for suggestions for software to allow me to create transcripts and to analyse the transcripts. It could be one software or two individual pieces. I am willing to pay a little( small budget!) if needs be.

For transcribing, I have had good results with otter.ai, and others have recommended Trint and HappyScribe.
For analysis, the fully developed programs (e.g., ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, and NVivo) are relatively expensive, but QDAMiner Lite is free. Also, Dedoose charges by the hours that you use it, so it can less expensive.
Hi John Murphy - a good software that supports you in analyzing qualitative data (if you were referring to qualitative data analysis), and that is very easy to use, is: Atlas.ti (there, you can find different purchasing options and prices: https://atlasti.com/students/).
