Soft skills are very important for medical profession. Appropriate soft skills are required to deal with the patients, their parents and sometimes relatives. What soft skills could make a doctor, a good doctor?
This is a very complex issue. From a sociological perspective, one observes that doctors deal with conflicting expectations, related to the different contextures of modern society (Knudsen & Vogd 2015 on this: https://bit.ly/2Mbx4Ws). In the experience of doctors, it might be appear as what R. K. Merton called "sociological ambivalence" (https://bit.ly/2N0VZeG). From this viewpoint, a key "soft skill" would be being able to articulate such conflicting expectations and demands, alongside 'doctoring'. Foremost listening to the patient, as Mary Wilson noted. But I might also suggest: anticipating the burden of care (aiming at a minimally disruptive medicine - May, Montory & Mair 2009); translating relevant evidence from specialized literature; making financially sound decisions in increasingly complex administrative contexts (Vogd, in Knudsen & Vogd 2015). Hope this helps.
Critical observation is an important soft skills. This goes from learning more about a patient to better understanding your interactions with your boss.
