What method can amorphize cellulose (microcrystalline or alpha-cellulose) with maximum preservation of its degree of polymerization?
P.S. Ball milling is not to offer; we checked that the degree of polymerization changes more than we need.

The tetra-N-butylammonium fluoride/dimethylsulfoxide mixture (TBAF/DMSO) is the least degrading dissolution system for cellulose because it does not affect its degree of polymerization. This mixture is used as an elution and preparation solvent for the determination of molecular weight distribution by steric exclusion chromatography.
