I am making a solution of sodium sulphide nonahydrate and acetic acid in water. The first time I did this (using a batch of sodium sulphide nonahydrate from 2008) it produced a colourless solution. However when using a different batch of sodium sulphide nonahydrate from 2021, it formed a white solution. Both batches has the same characteristics and CAS. The water and acetic acid were exactly the same both times.

Does anyone know what chemical reactions are happening? And what could have happened to the older sodium sulphide nonahydrate?
