I guess what you are seeing is the distinction between the A1 and A2 type A-type granitoids that Eby (1992; Geology 20, 641-644) described. Did you analyse for Nb? That might be another point of distinction between the two groups.

Grimes et al. (2015) is another good resource for trace element data in zircon - it includes many earlier references within as well.

I haven't encountered papers that examine combined Hf isotopic data and the trace element ratios utilizing Hf concentrations yet, though.

On the basis of the geochemical behaviour of Hf, granitic zircons can be divided into three types (early, late and hydrothermal zircon). Compared to the early zircon in granitic rocks, late-crystallizing zircon and especially hydrothermal zircon are characterized by much higher Hf contents and lower Zr/Hf, which can be explained by a change in DHf with decreasing crystallization temperature.

Both Y and Hf concentrations in zircon are temperature-sensitive, magma recharge and /or magma differentiation may account for Y/Hf ratio changes in zircon

I have read similar method in the Nielson's work (2017, scientific report). He use it to determine whether the mixture stage of melange is in their origin or during the invasion. However, they used the bulk rocks' trace element. As you might know, the proportion of element in the crystal is not only controlled by its parental magma but crystal structure. Since zircon tends to be enriched in HREE but depleted in LREE(similar to Y), I don't think it could work in terms of discrimination of magma evolution level or contamination.
