Should we start deemphasizing the teaching of the normal curve in the classroom? "Beautiful, but dangerous" is a very useful article by Robert Mathews that appeared in Significance Magazine, June 2016. Basically, it says that the normal distribution curve is beautiful, but dangerous. The Cauchy distribution curve can be a better model, due to its thicker tail. I suggest that we should start de-emphasizing the normal curve in our college classes. Do you agree or not?
