During hot and humid days of summer when in broiler farms there is no way to cool birds, most of farmers do not feed birds during day time (from 11 am to 6 pm) to reduce mortality caused by hyperthermia in their flock. This strategy postpones growth of these birds and does not make sense. Please share your idea and experience on this subject.

Yes it is better to remove feed during day time to decrease heat stress and allow feeding during night and birds will compensate their feed intake. We did research work under the title (Effect of Feed Withdrawal during Summer Day-Time on Performance of Broiler Chickens in Gezira State, Sudan) and we had good results concerning broiler grwoth, mortality and economics
Feed should be withdrawn 5-6 h before expected peak in ambient temperature. In this way heat increment will not coincide with the increased broiler house temperature. Heat stress should be managed by applying a complex approach: replacing up to 20% of the energy in the feed from starch by energy from fats and oils; decreasing stocking density by 10%, maintaining ventilation, adding 0.3-0.5% sodium bicarbonate to the feed
With drawl feed 5-6 hours before heat exposure and application of cold water prior and after the withdrawal of feed will support the survivability
Yes for sure the with drawl of the feed will be much better, in that way you can have big reduction on the mortality due the heat stress, be sure to have water, preferable fresh over all time of heat stress. If you have fan to move the mass of hot air will be also good for the birds. Feed the birds in the later afternoon.

Also you have to be careful to reposition the animal feed because it can cause cannibalism or agglomeration around feeders.

Yes it is wise to withdraw feed during the day but from a welfare perspective the number of birds per unit area should be reduced. Later during the feeding period birds should be provided with feed of high quality (energy and protein) so that they meet daily requirements.
