Several EU member states are already implementing registries for nanomaterials, i.e. require notification that a nanomaterial is put on the market regardless of any demonstrated hazard.

The European Commission is now investigating, whether such a registry (running under the name of "transparency measures") should be established on an EU level. It has launched a public consultation on that topic, in which both institutional stakeholders but also individuals can participate.
