Much is being talked about nowadays regarding the UK exiting the EU. What might be the main economic/political/social implications of such event? What could be the impact on the EU?
I think that an exit would mean that the global recognition of the EU would fall. In any case, I would urge both sides rather to negotiate. The UK exit is a bad scenario (finally, for both parties.)
UK exiting EU means that the objective of EU is defeated, an economic union moving towards a political Union should not be experiencing seccession at this point. there is a need to weigh the benefits of staying together as against the odds.
I believe that the main issue goes beyond the problem that the UK is posing nowadays. Even when this will be over (and it will soon be - whatever the result may be), there will still be a concern going on: what is going to happen with the EU? Will it collapse or it will deepen its integration process to become a political union?
I am not Eurosceptic, but I do believe that the EU integration is not sustainable in time, and this is because it brings with it lots of corruption issues that in turn weaken the nation states. Fundamentally, the idea of a united Europe appeared during times of war (actually, after WW2, Bretton Woods, 1944, but still, during times of war) and its main purpose was to prevent a further war between France and Germany by making these two countries cooperate. But in time, EU has been trying to develop into an empire - modern empire, but still, based on the idea of an empire. And if history has taught us something, is that sooner or later all empires collapse. At some point in time, all nation states within the EU will reclaim their sovereignty which they are feeling they are losing today.
