Should the Narration be in First person in a narrative Rsearch ?

When we write a report of Narrative Inquiry study, should we report the story of the respondat in First person ? Or, it may be retold in the 3rd person.

I wrote my thesis and follow-ups in the first person because it was what I, myself, had done. Although in places I used 'we' indicating and including my supervisors.
