Maybe existence after death might be a good alternative. The issues we all face, which I'm sure you are aware, is the term afterlife being more commonly used in religions. The words, life after death, I believe brings to mind being alive like we are in our everyday existence. Descriptions of people who have had near-death experiences present some unique characteristics. I did an analysis of actions described by people during their near-death experience. Their initial actions tend to be stimulus oriented and not goal oriented. Many people who are dying look forward to being reunited with deceased friends and relatives. In my analysis of 40+ near-death experience descriptions, only 1 mentioned looking for someone. In the other description, if they saw death friends or relatives, it is because these people came to them. The goal oriented parts of our brain seem limited during these experiences. If there is existence after bodily death a broad name might help us the best to carry out research of what happens after bodily death. Good luck in your endeavors.
