I am dealing with an optimization problem in which the algorithm will choose the section of the column (RC structure) between a lower and an upper bound (e.g., LB and UB).
I know that the obtained optimal values for the section can be a number like 330mm.
Recently, I came across this phrase in a paper dealing with the same problem where the author stated that 'The column sections are square with dimensions of
250 mm × 250 mm to 1200 mm × 1200 mm, by a step of 50 mm'
Any one knows how to do it please?

You can try this (I found this on a the mathworks forum)
"You can do round(val./d).*d where val is the original number(s) and d is the number(s) you want the result(s) to be a multiple of."
Example:
% round 102 to the nearest multiple of 7:
val = 102;
d = 7;
result = round(val./d).*d
result = 105

I guess this workaround is better to avoid discrete problems which usually take longer time.
