I find your question interesting and excite a very important issue. The introduction of electronics in agriculture activities is very required to save efforts, resources and increase the productivity. My opinion is that we have to bring supervision and control functions to agriculture.
In Egypt the irrigation and cultivation system is old and must be modernized by the introduction of irrigation control in the crops fields themselves.
This would require using smart sensors and actuators for water distribution in the fields. The aim is to save water, fuels, fertilizers and man power that can be used in an other more useful activities.
