A good scientific needs to travel in order to diffuse results and learn from colleges. Yet there is a carbon footprint for all this activity.

My question is how to achieve a good scientific career with a minimal carbon footprint.

So please share your opinions and estimates about this point, for example, correlations between h factor and carbon footprint, etc, etc.

Some strategies that I use are:

a) When travel, try to optimize conferences by carefully design a meeting plan. For example, make 1 flight per year to Europe, but use trains to go to many meetings once you are in Europe. Visit colleges who work nearby your landing place.

b) Find nearby meetings, accessible by train or short flights.

c) Use virtual conferences

d) See videos from important meetings.

e) Plant trees by yourself each year
