Bulk electrochemistry techniques are useful for providing an overall view of an electrochemical system. However, this does not necessarily provide a detailed picture of what is happening in a system. When knowledge of the effect of local features on the electrochemistry of a system is necessary scanning probe electrochemistry, like scanning electrochemical microscopy, scanning Kelvin probe, EC-AFM, and scanning vibrating electrode technique, can be used. Are there any examples in your research where bulk electrochemical experiments were performed, but the data was inconclusive until scanning probe electrochemistry was performed? Or have bulk electrochemical experiments led you to an initial conclusion which had to be adjusted after performing scanning probe electrochemistry measurements?
