sample mean is generally not preferred as a good representative of average of population mean for populations having skewed distributions and instead median is suggested for these cases in elementary statistics books. For exponential distribution (a highly skewed distribution) sample mean is not only unbiased for population mean but it also attains Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) i.e. there is no better unbiased estimator than sample mean. Can anyone explains this contradiction.
