Or you can add installation path of LAMMPS to your bashrc by adding the following lines to your .bashrc file.
export PATH=$PATH:/bin:path_to_lammps_file
One more suggestion, if you plan to run LAMMPS only on your laptop, you can use lmp_serial. It is built with OpenMP. So lmp_serial is capable of running parallelly on multiple cores. But if you plan to make use of multiple machines or multiple nodes of an HPC, then you have to use lmp_mpi. OpenMP parallelizations are faster than MPI as they share the same memory.
