In my opinion in the two can be united within the area of big data analytics and cyber security.

1. Big data analytics

Massive data is produced for every virtual coin mined through the block chain. These algorithm resulted in unexplored data. Where useful information can be digged in and explored. Whereas in IoT, the data being produced within the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.

2. Cyber security

The security of the network is a standout research opportunities. In the blockchain the issue of double spending is not an issue, although it is widely debatable. Whereas in IoT, security of the network is vulnerable as it integrate many aspect of the network. Hence, applying a similar cyber security and risk management aspect will be an interesting topic.
