I am a college student, I love physics and in one of my physics class, I got an assignment in which students have to make a research proposal in a particular area in physics. I initially choose interstellar travel, how to make interstellar travel faster and more than ever, but my professor said that the topic is not testable. For the proposal I have to develop a clear and concise problem stated that is testable. My second option for the research was atomic and molecular physics, but I am so confused how do I narrow this huge topic down? Also, I need some cool topic suggestions?
Hello Manthan, my recommendation is to choose a topic that is most relevant to your future work and study interests. The more you are passionate about the topic, the easier it will be to work well on the project. So first find 2-3 most passionate topics. If there could be social benefits also, that would be an added plus.
Once you have your selected topic areas, then you can go and find research papers published related to the area. Something with normally available instrumentation for any testing would be helpful too.
One point you can remember is that validation of tests of others is an important function of research. So you can find the research that has already been done, and try to duplicate it, or look in conclusions for "unanswered questions" or areas the researchers say they need to research more.
But the gist of my advise here is to do work on something that you can use again in the future in later coursework or research!
