I am Phd student and doing my work in trajectory data mining. I write a research proposal and confused about the sections significance, purpose and Goals. My professor said that it should be research oriented rather application oriented. What type of information should I give in these three parts?

_1. While you are working on your paper and writing the literature review, you must come across papers similar to yours. Make a note of the journals where these papers are published._
_2. Shortlist a few journals and look at their aims and objectives. Find out the one which matches your paper. Then download a few recent papers from that journal and read them carefully to understand the writing style. You must make sure that you follow that writing style and author guidelines._
_3. Make sure that your paper is about something new (theoretical novelty, managerial novelty or/and methodological novelty). It is because most of the journals are not interested to publish something which is just a mere replication. Even if you are replicating, its better to do a comparative study where you can compare your findings with the original study._
_4. Attend some workshops so that you can have the skill set to write an impressive paper._
_5. Be open. Attend conferences. Talk to experts. Write emails to the most cited/ most read scholars in your area. Yes, they are mostly professors... but believe me... they are happy to receive emails from students who wants to learn. Try to write papers with these scholars. Believe me this is the most successful method of learning how to write acceptable papers._
_6. If your paper is rejected. Look at why is it rejected. Try to learn from your mistakes. Make sure that you fix your paper as per the reviewer comments and then send it to another journal (may be a bit lower in ranking). Sometimes you may not agree to what reviewers say. It is fine and you can write it in your response but make sure do it with a justification and in a respectable manner._
_7. Believe in yourself and believe in God (if you do)._

It is important to know the aim and objectives of your study first...
The research proposal is a document covering the area of study and that the research design is feasible. The proposal should include an outline of the research objectives or hypothesis. And a brief account of prior research in the topic area. Some detail of the proposed research design and methods will be included in a research proposal. It should need a proper time schedule. A research proposal should include an outline of chapter headings. Means, introduction, literature review, description of methodology research results, analysis, summary & conclusions etc.
For writing a research proposal, you have to pin down exactly what it is you plan to do. Begin to read the key texts/papers on the subject to get more idea. Determine whether your ideas are practical/achievable and if yes, you can select it. Think about planning and time management to complete the research paper at the earliest.
For writing a research proposal, it needs a correct format and style. It needs a particular format and structure and it needs to number all the pages. Usually the research proposal structure is;

The purpose of research proposal:
The purpose of research proposal is to give a basic idea to your instructor about your research paper. But a proposal is not merely a mini research paper. It should have a specific and narrow topic. The topic should be interesting and original. Generally the thesis statement is in one or two sentences. The one-sentence thesis statement should state the topic and the stance that you will take on that topic. It has to be argumentative. The part of the introduction of your research explains the purpose for your study. It describes the goals and objectives in your research proposal. Usually it is defined in terms of a goal(s), the expected final product, result, or application of the investigation process. It defines specific tasks through listing objectives necessary to achieve that goal.
After narrowing the topic, you have to work with a working thesis. The proposal should be double spaced, in MLA format and about two to three pages. Always remember that each paragraph should be at least seven sentences. Also, identify the topic and discuss the controversy surrounding your topic. Understand the situation that why you choose this particular topic and why you find it interesting.
After that, define your research strategy. From where you find information, and how you are going to use it, what are you finding your information and how are you going to use it. Also describe what are you finding and controversially, what are you not, where are you going to look etc.
The last page of your research proposal should be the bibliography. It should be double spaced and alphabetized. Your research bibliography page should include every source that is not necessarily mentioned in your proposal.
