I have sent out an online questionnaire as part of my MSc research to a circulation list of some 900 people, whom all have membership of a certain body, and I had imagined of all seniority levels from admin to senior management.
My survey results from the demographics question show that over 72% of respondents claim to be middle or senior management within their job roles. Can anyone point me in direction of any previous research undertaken that might explain this? Is it just a question of these types of job grades being more interested in completing surveys? Its not massively important to my research just wanted to see if I could reference some other findings on this type of result.
You sent the survey to 900 people. You got back 50 surveys and 72% were from middle management or higher. I would try encouraging more of the 900 to return the survey and I would analyze the differences in response between the original 50 and the new group.
You might ask questions like what is the makeup of the society. Does 72% reflect the membership? Maybe it is easier to take the survey without the boss, and the boss' boss, and their boss all watching over you.
My gov't agency has anon. surveys, so that answers can't be matched to specific people. If not enough people respond for a given work section, making it easier to identify someone, then those answers are shielded from upper mgmt.
