I am interested in research related to Transfer qualification (Content/ curricula, success factors, Duration etc.) for teachers within the EU. Since the education of teachers still varies within the EU, this is a non-tarifary hurdle for teachers migrating within the EU and trying to work in other member-states. Also, is there any comparative study on qualification profiles of teachers trained within the EU?
This is a tricky one. Transfer of educational qualification would not that easy as you think. The medium of language of instruction of that qualification comes first and the rest is arguably easy to work on. In Canada, for example, I tried to compare / transfer foreign teaching qualification and credentials. Among other factors, language of instruction was what was standing out as major barrier to qualified teachers both in receiving and sending countries. By law, you can not teach / transfer to other province in Canada, other than you are originally graduated from (even when you completed your teaching qualification in the same language / English and country –Canada). I later understood that as a means of control of free movement of qualified teachers from one province to the other and making it difficult for the teacher to be hired immediately after resigning from a school she / he used to teach. You are expected to do more educational courses, in addition to what you did in your degree, if you moved to other province and seek a teaching job. I don’t know if this is the same for other professions such as engineers, nurses, accountant or doctors etc. But in the EU, you have more than 23 different states with their own different languages of instructions. I am not sure how you could do this, but select a few colleges / universities that train teachers in English language (or common language to all of them) and argue that these qualified teachers are good to teach in the EU states (selected). However, you need to persuade your supervisor and external examiner with your methods of research and ideal research participants. A good resource (literature / journal / research ) will enable you to substantiate your research proposal and findings. Good luck!!
