For my final year dissertation I am comparing imitation patterns among 2 year olds and 3 year olds. My IVs are age and gender DV is level of imitation. My hypotheses are that a) 3 year olds will over-imitate more than 2 year olds and b) girls will have higher imitation levels than boys. I am not sure what kind of design that falls under (stuck between correlation or quasi?) Thanks in advance!
You can make a comparison study by age and gender with t of student, I recommend that you make a SEM-MIMIC analysis where you can use the variables categories
as predictors of the level of imitation and to determine if there are differences, and how much of a difference score there is taking into account a global model that allows you to justify your theoretical model proposed.
A lot depends on whether you dependent variable is interval level or not. If so, you can use a 2-way Analysis of Variance to examine whether there is a "main effect" for each of your independent variables, as well as whether there is an interaction between them. (In your case, an interval variable might be something like counts of how often imitation occurs.)
