What are the best airborne remote sensing techniques for estimating oil type and slick thickness?

What are the best sensors on AUV's for detecting and mapping submerged oil plumes?

Alternatively....i propose a two step answer:

1- oil type. Typically in thin sar oil spill monitoring you have no sensitivity on permittivity hence you can only see the damping effect of oil

2- oil thickness. Use wavelength smaller then the thickness you want to estimate.
