Fine question. The heat equation is a gem of scholarship, and we are only starting to appreciate it. Black-Scholes picked it for finance. However, that was merely the beginning and expect deeper use of the heat equation.
Now, take a seemingly remote area like policy-making. Policy initiatives are often an excitation at a point in government and we seek to know its diffusion. There comes the heat equation. However, let us not start by looking for models. Let us seek frames of conceptualisation from the heat equation. Let us pull out a few lenses, and examine the complexities around us.
