Hello, would anybody have some papers on the benefits of ranking models over using an ensemble and vice versa for GCM model projections? What are the benefits of using one method over the other? Specifically in terms of ranking models on their ability to model a climate baseline established by station data. Thank you in advance.

Many have it wrong. Motivation to reduce CO2 and other ghg which do not condense in the atmosphere results from a shallow penetration of the engineering/science. Thermalization and Quantum Mechanics provide compelling evidence that CO2 has no significant effect on climate. You apparently did not grasp this from the above link.
