I have designed a CPW fed microstrip patch antenna for 60 GHz. It does not have a ground plane at the back side. All the results (return loss, bandwidth, gain and efficiency) are good. But the main lobe direction in radiation pattern is 160/170 degrees. Can anyone help me out why is it so. Can this plot be acceptable.

If it doesn't have a ground under it then it is not a microstrip patch antenna. It is a monopole with ground, I expect. The ground is the ground of the CPW. I expect it is the size and the shape of the ground that will be determining the shape of the radiation pattern. In a monopole over ground, the currents in the ground create an image of the monopole that is in phase with the monopole. If the currents in the ground are not quite in phase with the currents on the patch then it will steer the beam a little bit sideways. You may be able to change the phase of the currents on the ground by changing its size or by cutting slots or other patterns in it.
