Dear Respondents,
Thank you for participating in this important research study on Industry 4.0 and online work in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a specific focus on Ethiopia. Your insights and experiences are invaluable as we explore the opportunities and challenges faced by workers in this rapidly evolving landscape.
This research is part of a broader initiative investigating the implications of technological advancements, such as automation, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms, on the nature of work and labor conditions in the Sub-Saharan African region. As many countries in this region undergo a digital transformation, it is crucial to understand how these changes are impacting workers, particularly in terms of worker mobilization, job quality, and overall labor conditions.
The survey you are about to complete will cover the following key areas:
I aim to understand the extent to which technologies such as robotics, the Internet of Things, and data analytics have been integrated into your workplace or industry.
I will explore your perceptions of the impacts, both positive and negative, that these technologies have had on your work and employment.
I am interested in learning about your experiences with online work, freelancing, or gig work through digital platforms. This includes understanding the opportunities and challenges you have faced in terms of income, job security, work-life balance, and access to social protections.
I will examine the existing policies, laws, and regulations that govern labor practices and worker protections in Ethiopia, particularly in relation to technological advancements and the changing nature of work. I aim to identify areas where policy interventions or reforms may be needed to ensure the well-being and rights of workers are upheld.
Your responses to this survey will be kept strictly confidential, and the data will be used solely for research purposes. No individual respondent information will be shared or published.
I understand that some of the questions may be sensitive or personal in nature. Please feel free to skip any questions that you are not comfortable answering. Your participation is voluntary, and you can withdraw from the survey at any time.
By sharing your experiences and perspectives, you have the opportunity to contribute to the development of policies, programs, and initiatives that can help shape a more equitable and sustainable future of work in Ethiopia and the broader Sub-Saharan African region.
