The main problem with western science is precisely its dualistic tendency that tends to reduce everything to one thing, such as how Time was reduced to spacial dimension in the case of general relativity, because of the use of a mathematical tool based just on real numbers, I mean, Tensor Analysis, and with it, the geometrization of the space-time continuum, that created the need to introduce a geometry with ten dimensions, something that cannot exist, so there we have the great crisis of physics.

There are two books that describes in detail this crisis that I highly recommend:

and

The Big Bang Never Happened bu Eric J. Lerner

Regarding this crisis, Smolin writes:

“There are two kinds of theoretical physicists, the master craftspeople who power normal science and the visionaries, the seers, who can see through unjustified but universally held assumptions and ask new questions. It should be abundantly clear by now that to make a revolution in science, we need more of the latter. But, as we have seen, these people have been marginalized if not excluded outright from the academy, and they are no longer considered, as they once were, a part of mainstream theoretical physics.”

So your are totally right of the need of “broader dialogue on the interplay between mathematics, physics and philosophy”; in fact in my book Physics, Semiotic and Ontology and the Complex Thinking I tried to show how that dialogue was a real need, not only in field of science, but in those other fields of philosophy and spirituality or ontology too, to overcome the great crisis not only of physics but of Mankind.

So the great challenge of Mankind is to make a real paradigm shift the permits us not only to overcome the great crisis of physics, but the great crisis of Mankind
