I think research quality is more important than quantity for two reasons. First, publishing in a good journal will teach you lots of skills needed by a good researcher. Second, employers will look at your research profile and the type of journals you have targeted.

As you already know, Kay Smarsly, there are hundreds of journals that publish one's works within a week. On the contrary, publishing in good quality journals might take several years. When it comes to impact factor of the article, there are hundreds of articles that are excellent "Sleeping beauties" but not cited at all.

I do agree with Dr. Abdelhamid M. Ahmed .

Its the information that is important not the journal where the paper was published.

I think it may be important to have good papers, and lesser papers, notes, research technical papers etc. In other words, a broad range of different types of publications, and books are good too!

In biology any new data on anything, especially skimpy field observations on poorly known taxa may be called useless by some scientists, but they may be the only data if obtained on a declining species
