What are the most valuable and highest quality assets to a distance learning program? How do these assets affect the student learning taking place online?
Based on the desired outcome of a quality educational program, some practitioners believe that most distance learning programs are not significantly based around quality assets. A majority of these quality assets are composed and earned through recognition in leadership roles that are not in higher education.
What do you think are some solutions for distance learning to obtain quality improvements?
In my view a well-structured distance learning program must be constructed in a manner promoting flexibility, high curriculum quality, specific schedule, innovation and highly qualified specialists on the learning course (not only specialized in similar topics).
However, there are numerous factors educators have to consider in order to improve distance learning programs. I believe that the following are the most important ones: First, providing a curriculum based on students' needs (avoiding a "one size fits all" program). Second, providing flexibility regarding the time-schedules for the tasks assigned to trainees but these tasks have to be meaningful for the trainees or at least connected as long as possible with their academic of professional interests and expertise. Third, e-learning based on techniques promoting task-specific self-efficacy (in business administration for example) fostering informational sources proposed by Bandura (1986, 1997) in his social cognitive theory, these are: mastery experiences, vicarious learning, social persuasion and physiological-emotional states. This attempt clearly demands a more intensive human involvement by means of guidance and communication, an aspect which is absent from many learning programs.Fourth, in my opinion high motivation of trainees should be a target to be accomplished during the program. I suppose a participant has to gain higher interest for the learning subject in order to enhance some relative skills practicing on them in the real world after the completion of the program.
The most valuable and highest quality asset to a distance learning program is the student body, and then the organization and delivery of the program. In order for student to learn education has to be effectively written and presented in a learner-centric manner. Quality improvements must come through best practices that are implemented and tracked through continuous improvement.
