hello everyone,
i need to extract the coordinates of the deformed system in abaqus for plotting them in excel and comparing them with different other results. i have already tried to use the tool "probe" in abaqus viewer but i can't copy only the columns i need (x and y coordinates) from the .rpt file generated. do you know how to solve this problem using a python script?
I've never used python language and i don't know anything about that!
Hi Sara, could you upload some data here? It's not necessary all data. Just some lines to understand how the file is.
When you probe, you will get 2 tables, one with the nodeID and coordinates and other with the nodeID and results. In a few steps you can do the filtering in excel:
1: take the results data and remove duplicate entries by nodeID/elementID depending on how you extract the values. One node can belongs to multiple elements. This will leave you with a single result value per node.
2: copy these values next to the nodeID/coordinate table. Check that they have the same length, they should if you removed duplicates correctly.
3: Order the nodeID/coordinate table by nodeID and do the same with the data you just copied. This ensures that in one row of your spreadsheet you get the same node IDs, coordinates and values alike.
4: select the whole thing as one big table, and use filter to find the xy coordinates you need. Job done!
This process is fairly quick and robust and after a while you can do it mechanically.
Alternatively you can create a set of nodes/select them in the Viewer which are at the correct coordinate and just probe those. You will still need to do steps 1-3 the way Abaqus outputs the probe results. Or use the "Report" functionality in Abaqus.
