I have packed bed of granules. Bed gets swell when comes in contact with water. I would like to measure pressure drop across packed bed. Water is an fluidising medium. How to do actual measurement of pressure drop?
Measure the pressure at the inlet and the pressure at the outlet. The difference between the two measurement is the pressure drop. You should use the same pressure gauge for both measurements if possible.
1- You have to install pressure sensors or transducers at three points inlet, outlet and in between (for accuracy and extra investigation and study such as fluctuations).
2- Take zero reading before loading the material and water (to make sure there is no noise...) if the reading is zero then it is all good, if not you have to subtract the zero reading value from the readings after the experiments, repeat this step every time you do the experiment.
3-Load the material and take the reading of the pressure transducers before starting fludizing), repeat this step every time you do the experiment.
4- Do the actual experiment and measure the pressure and calculate the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet, or inlet and the mid-transducer and the mid-transducer with the outlet one and the sum is your total pressure drop.
