There were the days in the old era treating Doctor was thinking as Demigods, todays picture is somewhat different.what are the changing trends in practicing Ethical values worldwide?
I really agree with your idea that doctors were admired like demigods as they saved the people in society from sufferings and save their life. This profession was highly respectable in society.
Over the decades, because of several factors, the scenario has changed. This profession like any other profession has become "money centric". that charm and respect is somewhere lost.
Obviously, there are good doctors known for their work.
But, i do feel that due to the change in life style of people and the changing mind set of the ever expanding society, the ethical issues has been loosing its pulse. The ethics looks nice in the lines of books, whereas in the real world, the ethics have got nothing to do.
Its not like, doctors with ethics are not available, its available but rare to see nowadays.
Well, before I conclude, There are other pros and cons of the same coin.
When "ethics" is lost/compromised, the patient is in direct danger - Patient safety is at stake! Medical ethics has evolved from a set of rules to an institution in itself with so many modifers !
Unfortunately, the general ethical standards in healthcare practice (including medical, dental, nursing and paramedical fields) all over the world - for reasons that are varied and complex has fallen. What I am saying here is blunt and crude statement and as mentioned by Dr. Indrajit Mandal it is not universal, but that is the general trend these days.
The need of the hour - A revival of the ethical conscience of all personnel involved in healthcare (not just the doctors and nurses but including the management and organization - executives as well!). A change in organizational approach and inculcating a strong sense of responsibility for patient in doctors in training can improve patient care and ethical medical practice ... I feel!
Thank you Mandal sir, venkta sir,Ramasamy sir for wonderful reply.i know the changing trends in the system of education and profession affects the ethical values in the field.still there are very good Doctors practicing Ethics in the field of medicine.I think it is the need to train younger generation.
The improved changes in ethical values of Heath care system are, the development of approved human ethical committees in hospitals, academia and research based institutes even in private sector. Informed consent form recording following Helsinki Declaration. Mandatory registration of any clinical study/trial which is ongoing even. Various conferences, seminars and workshops on the concept of improving the ethical values in clinics. There are various methods implementing in various perspectives to the concept of ethics but the application of them by the clinicians is not upto the desirable and convenient state due to multifactorial influences like intervention of profit oriented private sector and its administrative strategies, insurance policy systems, improper/lack of support from government, increasing quackery etc. So, i conclude by saying that the trend in two ways i.e the ethics development trend is progressive but the effects of them are regressive.

Once doctors were thought as having a special spiritual gift. His work could have been practiced by a heavenly gift. Today they detain a priviledged knowledge which can determine if one is going to ljve or diz or yet one's quality of life. Therefore it may be Easy for some to be confused and deviate from his dream to practice a good medicine according to his votes. Fortunately, and strongly believed that mostra of the medical doctors are able to maintain good standards otherwise there would be no more this modelo many believe to existe.
