There are several extended family houses in my case study town. I needed to chose 15 among them, so I identified some people born and bred in a town. I got them to find the most suitable houses in the town in terms of being extended family households.
What do I call this methodology of sampling, which would show my use of the town inhabitants in identifying my exact sample?
This is called snowballing, a situation where a respondent identifies another respondent that can give similar or more detail information about the study phenomena within the study community
This might or might not be snowball sampling, depending on whether you got your suggestions all at once from the same group of people or got them iteratively from successive groups recommended by the original people you spoke with. But whether not you used a true "snowball" approach, you definitely used a key informant approach--working with knowledgeable people in the community to identify your ideal participant pool. I would describe this as key informant sampling first and foremost. Your sample is also nonrandom and that should be stated explicitly.
Yes it is a key informant approach, I suggest you reference some of the journal articles in qualitative research journals that refer to snowballing, key informant and purposive sampling approaches.
