The instructional development process for distance education, consists of the customary stages of design, development, evaluation, and revision. In designing effective distance instruction, one must consider not only the goals, needs, and characteristics of teachers and students, but also content requirements and technical constraints. If unusual delivery systems are required, they must be made accessible to all participants.

I was very skeptical about teaching online but have found it quite thought-provoking. What I've learned with and from students has caused me to rethink my approach to on-campus classes. I recommend my colleague Chip Donohue's work. It's quite practical.
