I am starting my PhD in the area of Plant DNA Barcoding. Hence, I would need to prepare a proposal concerning this topic and I am required to choose a specific PLANT TAXA or plant species that can be considered well for a DNA Barcoding strategy. It is important that the species must have a economic values or medicinal values.
As since I am not well-versed in Botany, I am seeking this help from you in this area and asking your kind advise and suggestions.
You can refer to books published by ICMR on Medicinal plants and find out which plants you would like to select. or are you looking out for a family on whose genera you want to do a DNA bar codding?
Hi Behnaz, Thank you for your comment. I actually, was advised to select a plant taxa which needs a special commercial attention. Like what you have wrote, I guess it could be of either a genera in a family or a particular plant taxa for a great focus in barcoding research and doesn't needs to be restricted for medicinal or other plants. At present, I am working on to get an idea in plant taxonomy; so hope I have answered your question. Please correct me if I am wrong at this.

NARESH, that is very easy, open ICMR website, go to medicinal plant unit, publications, atleast u will get the name of the plants i mean the contents of all their publication. but in the case of bar code studies, is better select a genus or order . do the DNA barcoding of all species of that genus, which will give gud publication in the end you can get good publications which can be helpful in the systematics of the plant groups too. www.plosone.org/.../info:doi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0001154. find this paper about DNA barcoding of the gymnosperms plants.
I have .accession number in database..soon it will be published...but one thing is that...you shold do ...barcoding..of the taxa ,which is not in the database
I guess that you have to study a taxon group easy for barecoding and another which is more difficult. Bareconding have some limits as a tool, you have to discover these limits.
