Physically smart people may be mentally smart too, but not as a rule. Otherwise, Stephen Hawkin wont have been "the intellectually most smart living scientist" on this planet. And sometimes, taking good care of your mental faculty leaves you with less fascination towards physical department. This is not to undermine the importance of physical smartness; its always good to be smart both ways.
I doubt about direct corelation between these 2 qualities. The strongest man on Earth title is granted to World Champion in Weight Lifting in Super Heavy Weight Category. But these folks are honest enough to laugh on the idea of being smartest.
Chess World Champions are the strongest in most respected mental game, they are also physically fit to sustain the stress. But neither of them excelled beyond this game.
Shaifa, I just happen to come from the school of thought that to solve a mental health problem we must also solve the physical ones--for there is nearly always is one with the other if our investigation is made to the depth needed to be wholistic (holistic). To resolve an addiction, for instance without getting the physical health optimized is an addictiion that is sure to return.
This is a question of what is he meaning of smart? And where and when? The Venus of Willendorf was an explicitly beautiful woman several thousand years ago and she might have been clever enough. According to my experiences physical beauty is connected often with poor intellectual capacities but to be ugly cannot be correlated with intelligence.
There is no such rule that physically smart people should be mentally smart. Maxim Kotsemir is absolutely right that first we have to define "physically smart people" than we can relate the phenomenon.
Of course, KC, it appears that you are assuming that one who takes care of themselves would be too selfish to take are of any one else, but I know of many healthy people who sacrifice to the extreme even for others' well-being. Yes, we tend to be more empathetic with the suffering of others when we have suffered ourselves. I came from a very poor and humble family that refused to take public assistance, so that during my entire adult life I have retained those values and helped as many others as has been possible without impoverishing my family.
I know that we are a product of our life experiences, and from the objective view one need not be in pain themselves or in poor health to appreciate and have a desire to help those less fortunate.
Physically Healthy persons are high on confidence on all kind of jobs. So generally they performs better than others. But this not necessarily makes them the smartest among all because some (Not Physically Healthy) are very good in a particular work but can't do other things well.
In my view every man is mentally smart if some provide him/her the environment according to their perception. because everyman have different qualities and these qualities can explore that time when some provide that ideal environment.
you can observe the in the class that every student is in the class some how same age and social condition but their physical condition is different to each other.
in the same class you can observe that physically dull student take position while vice-versa it based on the interest and quality of the student not on the physic.
For Example if some one physically smart and he has no quality and interest of learning Math or stat so what is the reason behind it?
while some one physically no smart he has interest and quality of learning Maths and stat so what is the reason behind it?
in my view interest and internal quality makes man intellectual if someone care of him/her and provide environment.
There is a big problem for me to use the term "physically smart".
If you wan´t to express the beauty of the body and/or face (I don´t know a norm what´s is pretty or not), there is definitely no inescabable correlation. My experience is instead: the smarter the face the less interest to train the brain and intellect.
If you you are talking about the dexterity, so there could exist a correlation, because people with a smart body of this kind are possibly better explorers of the world.
In both cases smart body can carry a smart brain or not. Smart brain can find place in a unsmart body, So I see no logical correlation for a special individuum.
very interesting question Sahifa, how can we evaluate smart man having smart mental approach?I think there is no such criteria to judge people,a general perception about fat people are that they have humorous quality. But smart people having good intellect, regular busy in positive activities like exercises, having reasonable job profile can be seen smart mind but still gauge is very complex to analyse people on such yardstick
Except, all, with few exceptions, taking care of one's physical health is more the hallmark of someone that is also intelligent than someone lacking intelligence. While I would not necessarily correlate physical attractiveness with degree of intelligence, an intelligent person tends to take better care of themselve and their environment.
"Physically Smart" is that which can extend lifespan and Quality of Life. I recall the Methuselah Mice study (do not have link here) where ordinary mice that were given a diet that increased base-pair size of telomeres (and, indirectly lengthened DNA strands) substantially outlived normal mice. The relationship between physical health and cognition is so strong that as we embark on trials relative to the effect of the "shrunken brain"/cognition model for older adults, early indications are that improvements in a restored brain mass size translates into increased mental scores. Hence, to improve cognition dysfunction we work on the underlying physical contributors instead of the more superficial symptomatic ones.
